ANNUAL REPORT 2022

It gives me immense happiness to highlight the progress at Highland Public School in the Academic session 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-23.

Just after the completion of 2019 session, there was COVID OUT BREAK. In the midst of this Covid-19 outbreak, Highland Public School was one of the pioneering schools to adapt in the unprecedented situation and adopt new and innovative methods of teaching-learning to tackle the crisis and thus continue to render education to the students. We were successful in offering effective online education to our students right from the beginning, according to a well-structured timetable. Not only were the scholastic needs catered to but we also took care of the co- scholastic aspects necessary for the students developments. So, despite all odds, we continued to offer a plethora of online activities and opportunities to our students to nurture their potential. Assessments were conducted throughout the pandemic with online tests and examinations through Google Forms, to test the understanding of the students.

It gives me immeasurable joy to announce that our students continued to bring laurels to the school by giving a 100% result in both the sessions 2020-2021 and 2021- 2022, without any failures or compartments and we were probably the only school in this area to give 100 % result in 2022 when the CBSE Board conducted offline exams.

In the session 2020-21, out of 14 students of class X, the top score was 94.8 % and the lowest was 67 %. In class XII with 14 students, the result was again excellent with the highest score being 96.8 % and the lowest being 84.6 %.

In the sessions 2021-2022, the highest score in class X was 94 % and the lowest score was 50 %. And in class XII, 95.6 % was the top score while the lowest was 50 %.

Our new Session began on 07th February, 2022 and there was a rise in student enrolment to 554, with two sections till class X and all the three streams in class XI and XII.

I feel very pleased to inform you that HPS has once again been nominated as Lead Collaborator School by CBSE on the basis of collaborative activities and innovative practices in the school organised with the other Hub schools. Our teachers too continued to upgrade their skills and knowledge by participating in online teachers training programmes offered by CBSE and by in house trainings also.

Our endeavour has always been in providing a conducive environment and adopting a holistic approach in grooming the future of our students. As part of this on-going process, it is extremely important that apart from academic excellence, we also emphasise on the all-round personality development of students. Keeping this in mind, we feel, inculcating the right habits, mannerisms and the right attitude towards working hard is equally essential right from the day children step into the school and carries on right through their stay in school.

As part of this process, the following are available for our students:

  1. Dedicated full-time digi-classes to further enhance the learning experience through e-learning have been provided for Classes 3rd to 12th. The teachers are encouraged to use these as often as possible.

2.  To ensure better monitoring, CCTV cameras along with speakers have been provided in each classroom, corridors, laboratories as well the playfield.

3.  Our school library is now equipped with over 6000 books ranging from story books, biographies of our great thinkers, philosophers to reference books.

4. Wherever possible, Highland believes in providing a safe and a reliable transport facility to its students. Your school has 8 buses of its own.

5. It has been our endeavour to provide a fresh and healthy atmosphere to the children and we have been working towards the beautification of the school campus by plantation of fruit and ornamental trees as an ongoing process.

6. New infrastructure has been added during this period including modern, clean, hygienic washroom, separately for boys and girls, juniors as well seniors.

7. Multipurpose Hall, much larger and spacious Library, music room, composite lab and two new blocks have been added during this period.

8. A cemented badminton court for students has also been constructed.

PEDAGOGY AT HIGHLAND

There is special emphasis for an all-round personality development which is extremely essential in today’s competitive environment. We also feel that the initial tender years need extra care and children need to spend an adequate amount of time in school.

It has been a priority at Highland to provide a stimulating learning environment for an all-round development of its

students. Teaching through Digi-Class to further enhance learning through e-learning is an important element of our system. Computer education is important and is introduced from Nursery stage itself.

Developing effective communication skills being one of the basic objectives of the school in today’s competitive environment, extra-curricular activities like Paper Reading, Quiz, Dramatics and Declamations are regularly taken up on Saturdays which are earmarked for this purpose only.

Since ‘Time Management’ is an essential element in today’s fast paced life, a special care was taken to train our students to finish their activities within the stipulated time frame so that they are fully trained and equipped to excel when they reach 10th and 12th.

The school has a well-equipped library covering varied spheres language skills, literature, like science, encyclopaedias, dictionaries, Special Magazines and Newspaper.

CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Apart from academics, co-curricular activities and celebrations have always been a regular feature at Highland. Foundation Day, Environment Day, Teacher’s Day, and Grand-Parents Day were organized in the school.

To develop a spirit of healthy competition and to excel, various competitions were held in the school during the year. Prayer Recitation, Poetry Recitation, Slogan Writing, Poster Making, English and Hindi Calligraphy, Story Narration, Paper Reading and Declamation Competitions were held in which all the students participated enthusiastically.

In order to make them self-dependent, a day & night camp, which has now become an annual feature of our Co-curricular activities was organised, almost after two years, for students of Classes VI to XII within the school campus.

Hygienic filtered water is provided by the school. Lunch is had in a clean and a comfortable lunch room under the guidance of the teachers and the maids. There is a proper arrangement for serving warm food. We have also made the facility of temperature regulation in each class room by way of fans during summers and room heaters-during the winters.

In order to ensure balanced growth of a child, regular interaction of the school and the parents is of utmost necessity. So, a Parent-Teacher Meeting is held on every second Saturday of the month where the parents get feedback about their child’s progress. The pandemic introduced us to technology and taught us to save paper and cutting of trees. So, we moved with the technology and shifted from the printed messages to e-messages. The syllabus covered in the previous month and proposed to be covered in the coming month are sent regularly through e-messages to the parents. Parents are encouraged to attend these meetings and since these meetings play a vital role in bridging the relationship between the parents and the teachers, we even personally call parents who are unable to attend.

During my almost 9.5 years interaction with parents at the school, I have found you all a very enlightened group who take their parenting role very seriously. I would like to thank the parents of my dear students, without whom we are not complete. We are aware of the great trust you have reposed in us and it will be our constant endeavour to live upto it.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our Honourable Chairman, Mr Rakesh Gupta, for his valuable support. His vision and expertise have always been a source of strength to all of us. I would also like to thank our Secretary Mr. Bhuvnesh Dubey for his persistent support and co-operation. It is because his unrelenting efforts that make things happen very smoothly and efficiently at school. Sir, we are indeed very grateful to you for being a great source of inspiration to all of us.

My report on the school would be incomplete without adding a vote of thanks to all my wonderful team of teachers who have put in their efforts and brought this fabulous event together for all of us.

This may be a start of bigger and better things for our school. Let us seek the blessings of the Almighty in all our future endeavours.

Thank you

ANNUAL REPORT – 2014

It gives me immense pleasure and happiness to highlight the progress at Highland Public School in the academic year 2014.

After a very fruitful first year at Highland Public School in 2013, I have had the privilege of steering the school towards getting enrolled with CBSE for Class 9 examinations for the very first time.

Our new session began on the 11th of February 2014 and there was a rise in student enrollment to 419. This year too one more class was added and as a result the school was upgraded to class IX with two sections till class III.

I also feel very pleased to inform you that having received our affiliation with CBSE in 2013, we have started the process of consolidating the various teaching processes to be followed as per CBSE guidelines.

It has been our ethos at Highland to be at the forefront of dynamic new techniques in education as well as to keep our facilities and infrastructure in line with the changing needs of a growing institution. As part of this process, the following were further added to our facilities at Highland:

1. Dedicated full-time digiclasses to further enhance the learning experience for subjects available through e-learning have been provided for classes 3rd to 9th.
2. To ensure better monitoring, CCTV cameras along with speakers have been provided in each classroom, laboratories as well the playfield.
3. A spacious 1000 square feet library with over 4000 books has been added to our facilities.
4. Separate laboratories for Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics which would ultimately meet the needs of our +11 and +12 students as well have been established in the beginning of this session.
5. To ensure that none of our various activities get affected by the uncertain weather conditions of Dharamshala, a roof has been provided over the stage and sitting area.
6. We have been putting in our efforts to get the approach road sanctioned last year to be completed as early as possible. There have been delays in its completion and we are taking it up with the concerned authorities so that it is completed by the beginning of the next session.
7. Wherever possible, Highland believes in providing a safe and a reliable transport facility to its students. As part of the process, we have been adding a school bus each year. During this session also, another school bus was added in our system. Now your school has 5 buses of its own.
8. It has been our endeavor to provide a fresh and healthy atmosphere to the children and the school has been working towards the beautification of the school campus by plantation of fruit and ornamental trees as an ongoing process.

ANNUAL REPORT – 2013

It gives me immense pleasure and happiness to highlight the progress at Highland Public School in the academic year 2013.

It was a moment of great pride and honour for me when I joined the Highland Family on 1st April, 2013. I have been bestowed the honour of serving and nurturing Highland Public School in a highly vibrant and dynamic environment created by Mrs. Veena Soni and shall endeavour to give my best for the progress of the school.

Our new session began on the 11th of February,2013 and there was a rise in student enrollment to 375. This year too one more class was added and as a result the school was upgraded to class VIII with two sections till class II.

I also feel very pleased to inform you all that the process of affiliation which started with our school inspection in November 2012, culminated with our school receiving the CBSE affiliation this year.

Highland has forever been into maintaining pace with the new dynamic techniques in education and has always been enhancing its facilities and infrastructure. During this academic session, our infrastructure was augmented as follows:
1. Two new digiclasses were added to further enhance the learning experience for subjects available through e-learning. Your school has now made available dedicated full-time digiclasses for class 2nd to 8th.
2. To ensure better monitoring along with the CCTV cameras, which were installed last year, this year speakers too have been installed in each class.
3. The school ground, which was under maintenance, is all ready with lush green grass for the students to take up various sports activities.
4. I am also happy to inform you that as a result of the unrelenting efforts of our management, the construction of the road connecting our school to the main road has started and hopefully within few months, we will have a metalled road.
5. During this session another school bus was also added in our system. Now your school has 4 buses of its own.
6. The school is working towards the beautification of the school campus by plantation of fruit and ornamental trees thereby creating an environment that provides fresh and healthy atmosphere to the children.

PEDAGOGY AT HIGHLAND
A special focus is maintained on providing quality all-round education and it has been the priority at Highland to provide a stimulating learning environment.

Developing effective communication skills being one of the basic objectives of the school in today’s competitive environment, extra-curricular activities like Paper Reading, Quiz, Dramatics and Declamations are regularly taken up on Saturdays which are earmarked for this purpose only.

The evaluation system remained the same as the previous year. But, with the introduction of the CCE pattern, there have been a few changes with the addition of “Activities” along with the “Tests and Examinations”. The “Activities” and the “Tests” were termed as Formative Assessment (FA) and the Examinations as Summative Assessment (SA).

It has been our endeavor to teach ‘Time Management’ during the conduct of these tests so that our children are fully trained and equipped by the time they reach 10th and plus 2 stage. Adequate time is also being provided separately at the beginning and the end of SA 1 and SA 2 for reading the question paper and revising the answer sheets respectively.

The school has a well-equipped library with over 3000 books covering varied spheres like sciences, language skills, literature, encyclopedias, dictionaries and fact finders. The students have an easy access to the library under the supervision of their teachers. Library books are issued to every child on weekends to inculcate good reading habits.

I feel pleased to announce that we would have a larger library in our new block from the next session.

ANNUAL REPORT – 2012

It is a privilege for me to share some highlights of the progress at Highland in the academic year 2012. Our new session began on Feb 6th, and we saw a rise in student enrollment to 323. As in the previous years, this year also next class i.e. 7th was added. From this session there are two sections till Class I while balance classes are with one section. Academic year 2012 has seen a series of extra-curricular activities creating a positive impact for our students.

In the last session we had applied for affiliation from CBSE, and I am pleased to inform you that the final inspection of your school is expected shortly.

Demonstrating Highland’s pledge to maintain pace with dynamic new techniques in education and as a continuous process of enhancing our facilities and infrastructure, the following facilities were added during this session:
1. To enhance the learning experience for subjects available through e-learning, this year 4 more new digiclasses were added. Your school has now made available dedicated full-time digiclasses for class 2nd to 7th.
2. This year we also enhanced our computer room facility to 25 seats so that each student in a class can have access to an individual computer.
3. To provide a much better and an enjoyable learning experience, a 25 seater language lab has also been set up where-in students can learn the finer nuances of English language and its pronunciation.
4. Discipline is a very important aspect of growing up. In order to instill a certain element of discipline in our students, continuous and proper monitoring is of utmost importance. To ensure better monitoring, CCTV cameras have been installed in each class.
5. Your school also put in extra efforts to provide after-school classes in areas where more inputs were thought to be required. Our teachers were more than keen to do this extra bit for the benefit of the students. However, after an initial enthusiasm, there were hardly any students who wanted to take this opportunity. It would only be feasible if there were at least 7-8 students from each class who wanted to make use of this facility.
6. Adequate sports facilities have also been added. Though physically the school ground was available for the last one year, separate areas for various sports were not ear-marked. Separate ground with goal-posts has now been earmarked for football. The same field will also double-up as a cricket field. Three separate courts for basket-ball, volley-ball and badminton have also been set up. With a full-time trained physical education Instructor on our rolls now, we expect to put in a much more directed effort towards sports in the coming years

Aacademics, co-curricular activities and celebrations are a regular feature at Highland. The day starts with the Morning Assembly. Prayer, Shlokas, School Pledge, news reading and meditation are regular features during this time. Saturdays have been specifically earmarked for extra-curricular activities like dramatics, Quiz, paper-reading and declamations for all round personality development of our students.

It has been the priority of the school to provide a stimulating learning environment conducive to growth and learning where students are encouraged to acquire knowledge rather than being forced to learn. AS a result we have maintained a special focus on providing quality all-round education based on understanding and application rather than mere knowledge.

We continued with our examination and class test system adopted in the last session. Apart from Half Yearly and Annual Examinations in July and December respectively, four monthly class tests in the months of April, May, Sept. and Oct, were held. This change in the examination schedule was to create a more efficient use of time in teaching, and reduce stress on the students

At Highland, we start computer education from the nursery stage and French, as a foreign language, from KG onwards. In order to build up the fine arts side of each child’s personality, dramatics and music are part of our regular curriculum.

The school has a well equipped library with over 2000 books covering varied spheres like sciences, language skills, literature, encyclopedias, dictionaries and fact finders. With planned library periods under the supervision of teachers, students have easy access to the library. In order to inculcate good reading habits amongst the students, library books are issued to children every week.

CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

The students reveled in various celebrations during the year. To keep the home-school bond intact, Mother’s Day and Grandparent’s Day were celebrated in the school. Children were encouraged to create art and crafts gifts for their mothers. Grandparents were invited on Grandparent’s Day and various activities were held.
Foundation Day, Holi, Fancy Dress on Teacher’s Day, Environment Day, Art & Craft, Science, English, Mathematics and EVS Exhibition were also organised in the school. In this era of Global Warming and the severe adverse affect it has on our environment, Highlanders observed the World Environment Day. Children happily planted saplings in the school campus.

For balanced over-all growth of a child, regular interaction between parents and teachers is of utmost necessity. In this regard, regular Parent-Teacher Meetings are held on every second Saturday and we encourage parents to attend these meetings. Printed monthly progress reports, syllabus covered in the previous month and proposed to be covered in the coming month were handed over to the parents. A copy of the same is also maintained in the individual student file. We in-fact go to the extent of personally calling up those parents who do not show up so that they may attend these important meetings.

Parents as well as teachers are also encouraged to interact regularly with the school counselor for smooth working of our highly innovative education system.

I thank Mr. Rakesh Gupta, our Chairman for being a strong pillar of support. His vision and expertise is always a source of strength to all of us. I thank Mr. Dubey, our secretary for giving valuable guidance and direction in every aspect of the school’s activity and its progress.

I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to every single member of my team; they are indeed the wind beneath my wings.

Annual Report – 2011

It is a privilege for me to share some highlights of the progress at Highland in the academic year 2011. Our new session began on Feb 8th, and we saw a rise in student enrollment to 277. We have divided Pre- Nursery, Nursery and KG into two sections, with 25 students per section. Academic year 2011 has seen a series of extra-curricular activities creating a positive impact for our students.

Your school has created a reputation of very high standards and we have been approached by a number of parents to start higher classes. However, since we are committed to add only one class at a time with our own students moving up, we have not been able to accept this demand.

As per our commitment to seek affiliation from CBSE, your school has received the State Government approval (NOC) for seeking CBSE affiliation and has accordingly already applied for “Middle Class Syllabus Approval” from CBSE this year.

After shifting to our own campus spread over 2.5 acres in 2010, a lot of progress has been made in enhancement of our infrastructure. Apart from large airy classrooms, 2 digi-classes, 2 spacious lunch rooms, a large playground and a “second school bus” have also been added.

At Highland we adopt a regular process of evaluation on all fronts. There is a special emphasis for the all-round personality development, an essential in today’s competitive environment. Computer education is imparted from the nursery stage and French, as a foreign language, from KG onwards.

It has been the priority of the school to provide the best possible education using the latest advances in modern education. ABACUS mathematics classes were first introduced from May 2011 onwards. Students of class 1 through 6 were assigned a weekly schedule of instruction from ABACUS coaches every Monday. The teachers have noted a remarkable rise in learning ability, especially in mathematics.

In May 2011 we added two Digi-classes and began teaching through these Digi-classes, where students are taught through electronic digital board slides, videos and graphics. Mathematics, Life Sciences, Geography, History, Civics and Environmental Sciences are effectively and easily taught through Digi-classes. This method interests and engages the students in such a way that improves their learning and retention ability to a remarkable degree. This has made an appreciated difference in the quality of education at Highland School and demonstrates Highland’s pledge to maintain pace with dynamic new techniques in education.

The school administration decided to conduct Half Yearly and Annual Examinations in July and December respectively every year instead of 1st and 2nd Terminal Examinations. This change in the examination schedule was to create a more efficient use of time in teaching, and reduce stress on the students. It was also decided to conduct four monthly class tests in the months of April, May, Sept. and Oct, on the first three working days of these months.

With planned library periods under the supervision of teachers, students have easy access to the library. In order to inculcate good reading habits amongst the students, library books are issued to children every week.

In order to help physical development, which is so necessary in young children, we have apart from the games period, karate, drills and PT as part of our regular activities.

Foundation Day, Holi, Fancy Dress on Teacher’s Day, Environment Day, Diwali, Art & Craft, Science and EVS Exhibition were also observed in the school. In this era of Global Warming and the severe adverse affect it has on our environment, Highlanders observed the World Environment Day. Children happily volunteered to bring tiny plants in pots and others drew pictures on conserving Nature with punchy slogans. At morning assembly everyone came forward and shared a poem or message on nature.

To develop a spirit of healthy competition and a desire to excel, various competitions were held in the school during the year. Students participated in “Prayer Recitation”, “Poetry Recitation”, “English and Hindi Calligraphy”, “Story Telling”, “Quiz”, “GK”, “Paper Reading” and “Declamation” competitions.

We held two picnics on separate days, one for the junior wing on May 7th and one for the senior wing on May 8th. Students of the junior wing had a school outing in the countryside near Shahpur. They enjoyed a nature walk, outdoor games, fresh mountain air and rippling streams with the warm company of friends and teachers. The seniors visited the Horticultural University in Palampur.

Hygienic filtered water is provided by the school. The students are free from the hassle of bringing water-bottles from their homes.
